I’ve said it, and you’ve probably said it too when asked ‘how are you doing?’  The response goes something like this, ’I’m okay, under the circumstances.” We have an abundance of circumstances right now.  Some of them are wearing masks, no handshaking, sitting apart, self-isolation, and the loss of normalcy.  Those circumstances can overshadow the good if we allow it.  I have heard it all my life; the outcome of anything is 10% what happens to you and 90% your attitude. Our attitude about the circumstances can make all the difference. Does it change that there are ‘circumstances’?  No, but it helps us to view and respond to them in a way that brings glory to God.  The Apostle Paul can tell us a thing or two about circumstances.  If he had allowed his circumstances to dictate his attitude and actions, we would not have a good portion of the New Testament that was written while he was in prison.  How did he live above the circumstances?  He did it by focusing on his Hope – Jesus Christ!

When if we focus on the circumstances, they will grow and grow, and before we know it, we won’t see God and His goodness and blessings. So how do we put our circumstances in their proper place? We do it by standing on the promises of God’s Word and living a life of joy.   Our children sing this song in Sunday School. Maybe as adults, we need to sing it too; it’s called J-O-Y!

Jesus and others and you, what a wonderful way to spell JOY
Jesus and others and you, in the life of each girl and each boy
J is for Jesus, for He has first place, O is for others, we meet face to face
Y is for you and in whatever you do, put yourself last and spell JOY!

So, if we are Standing on the Promises and living J-O-Y, we’ll find that we are no longer ‘under’ the circumstances.

I look forward to seeing you Sunday.  Know that we are praying for you and your family.

Pastor Gray

Circumstances are like mattresses, if you get on top of them, you’ll sleep well. If you get under them, you’ll smother!
